The recent outrage of ransomware (screen lockers) has impelled me to write this guide to describe how computer users can boot from a rescue disk. Whilst rescue disks are no longer the most common method to remove spyware and viruses, the recent rise in screen locker infections makes them an effective alternative to unlock your PC. Commonly, rescue disks are used to remove viruses from computers when it is impossible to use Safe Mode. In this guide, I use ImgBurn software to burn the .iso file to a CD.
To download ImgBurn, click here. We will use the Kaspersky Rescue Disk, which can be downloaded here. We chose this rescue disk since Kaspersky remains one of the top antivirus vendors. In addition, their rescue disk is easy-to-use and employs an attractive graphical user interface. If your computer is infected with a ransomware infection (for example, FBI Your Computer Has Been Locked, Police Central e-crime Unit scam, etc.) and you are unable to boot your computer in Safe Mode, follow this guide to remove the infections using a rescue disk.
2. Burn the Kaspersky Rescue Disk .iso file to a blank CD: Install ImgBurn software, launch it, and select 'Write image file to disk'. In the opened window, choose the downloaded Kaspersky Rescue Disk (kav_rescue_10.iso) file and click the 'write image file to disk' icon at the bottom of the window.
From three of the largest bootable antivirus rescue disks to the smallest. The Trend Micro Rescue Disk may well be the smallest bootable antivirus disk on this list, but it packs a handy punch that will help you regain control of your system.
Given its size (around 70MB at the time of writing), you can forgive that the Trend Micro Rescue Disk has no graphical user interface. Instead, you use the rescue disk exclusively through plain text menus. It sounds a little daunting. But in practice, the text menus are simple to navigate, and you will find your way through.
Regarding the other tools, all are strong and will clean your system. Depending on the severity of the malware, you could download two bootable antivirus disks and run them one after the other to make sure nothing slips through the net.
The Kaspersky Rescue Disc 10 is a very useful scanning tool which lets you preform virus / malware /rootkit scans from outside of windows. The one drawback is it takes FOREVER to update, once booted. Sometimes you can re-download the entire ISO file and update your usb key, but even then that might get you definitions that are a few days old.In this guide I am going to tell you how to keep your Kaspersky Rescue Disc Definitions as up to date as possible, so when you need to use it, it?s as current as it?s going to get. Before we get started lets create a USB key with the Kaspersky Rescue disc on it. This is by far the easiest media to keep up to date once we get to the end of our guide. So first download the Kaspersky Rescue Disc ISO, once you create the USB key, hold onto the ISO we need it later. _rescue_10.isoNext download the Kaspersky USB creator which can be found here. It?s pretty self-explanatory so I?m not going to go into detail on how to use the USB tool.Once finished let?s get started with the guide.First let?s start by downloading the ?Kaspersky Rescue Disk Updater? Once downloaded, extract the files to a directory of your choice. Now take the ISO you downloaded earlier and rename it to rescue.iso (make sure when you are done you don?t have rescue.iso.iso)Put the ISO file inside the bbalegere-Kaspersky-Rescue-Disk-Updater-02648c8 folder (this directory will be located inside the directory you just extracted the files to)Inside that same folder you will see a diskupdt.bat. You do not need to run that as admin, doing so seems to cause issues. When its all done you should now have 2 ISO files in that directory.Rescue.isoRescueusb.isoOpen the USB key you created at the very beginning and browse to the ?rescue? folder. Inside there you will see those exact same 2 iso files. Now simply copy and paste them from your update folder to the rescue folder on the USB key. That?s it! Kaspersky USB now has the latest updatesPersonally I would edit the bat file and remove the word pause at the very end. Then I would set the bat file up as a task that runs every night. This way when it runs every night it won't stop at the very end and wait for you to press any key, it will just exit. Now whenever I need to use the Rescue disc I just copy those 2 files over and have the latest updates.
What is Kaspersky Rescue Disk? As the name implies, this is a rescue disk released by Kaspersky. Like other rescue disks, Kaspersky Rescue disk also available in ISO disk image file. You need to download and burn this image to CD/DVD to use it, but how to use it in computers that has no optical drive?Of course, it is possible to make a bootable USB drive using some Linux Bootable USB maker, but it involves a tedious job. To help you, Kaspersky has developed a tool called Rescue2usb.
Even though the rescue disk has an option to update the virus definitions from the internet, it is not very useful as the updates are saved only on that particular computer. If you use it on another computer then you will have to download all the updates again.
Kaspersky Rescue Disk Updater fixes the above problems by updating your existing Kaspersky Rescue Disk ISO with the latest virus definitions from the Kaspersky Servers. This helps in keeping your recue disk up date without having to download a lot of files, saving a lot of time and bandwidth.
Once a Trojan has infected and locked your PC, there is nothing you can do without using additional tools. First you will require a second PC on which you can use free software to prepare a cleaning stick or CD/DVD. You can then use this stick or disk to remove the infection from your PC and regain access to your data in their previous form. The text below will first explain how you can use the USB stick tool from HitmanPro to clean your PC. We will then tell you how to burn a rescue CD from Avira or Kaspersky that you can use to clean your computer.
The Kaspersky Rescue Disk is an emergency rescue disk utility that can be used to create a bootable CD/DVD, or a bootable USB drive to recover your computer for malware infections. It not only scans and rescues your system, but also lets you do other file management tasks such as transferring your important files from the infected host computer to a removable media or other storage options with the help of its File Manager program. There is a Web Browser as well for getting help while you are inside the recovery environment. Another important tool is the Registry Editor that can be used to fix Windows Registry related issues.
Step 1: Open the Kaspersky Rescue Disk 10 Utility (rescue2usb.exe), and extract it by pressing the Install button. This will extract the files necessary to create the rescue disk into a folder named Kaspersky.

Here is a complete list of Bootable USB and CD Antivirus rescue software for Microsoft Windows. You can use this tool to restore your computer to normal working mode when it is infected so deeply that it will not start. Norton Bootable Recovery Tool (NBRT) can also be used to scan and remediate threats should you face difficulty in installing or running Norton products due to a virus infection in your computer. When your computer is afflicted with a virus and you can no longer repair it using the Windows front screen, Kaspersky Rescue Disk 2023 is one of the emergency methods you can utilize. The solution is to use this antivirus to convert the Kaspersky Rescue Disk into a bootable disk, and then boot from that disk to perform an emergency rescue. Also included is the Kaspersky USB Rescue feature, which is useful for switching the boot media from a DVD or CD disc to a flash drive.
The latest Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2018 will be launched when the download is complete. Select the drive you want to scan and scan. Kaspersky Rescue Disk allows you to deal with viruses more effectively since this disk does not require Windows to be loaded, meaning that malware will remain idle.
Creating and using a bootable USB rescue disk is a much faster, easier and smarter approach than a bootable cd/dvd, earlier we had shared a trick which allowed users to create a bootable USB disk with Kaspersky Rescue ISO, now Kaspersky has listened to the need and released an official bootable USB disk maker for Kaspersky Rescue Disk.
